Battery question

Forums:

Hi,

I am powering a hexpod using 3 servos and was thinking of using this battery:-

ENERG-PRO NiMH 4.8V AA-2100 SQUARE
Cells - 4 (4.8v)
Capacity - 2100mAh
Weight - 122gmm
Size - 50 x 30 x 30mm
Maximum Charge -210mah
Continuous Discharge -
Battery Lead - Heavy Duty Silicone Futaba/JR

Will this be battery be OK? Will it power the servos and the raspberry pi ?

Is it OK to have the battery and the raspberry pi power supply connected at the same time?

The simple answer is no, that battery will not be able to power the Raspberry Pi on its own.

If you are using the UltraBorg with this battery to run the servos you MUST remove the 5V link jumper.
This is because the Raspberry Pi is very sensetive to the supply voltage, it must be an accurate 5V supply.

With the 5V link jumper removed you can power the servos from the battery and power the Raspberry Pi from a separate power supply.
This is a good arrangement as any noise the servos add to the battery voltage is isolated from the Raspberry Pi as well.
