The first thing to check is the wiring between the stepper and the ZeroBorg.
For the zbStepper.py script to work as intended one coil of the stepper needs to be connected to M1+ and M1-, the other coil needs to be connected to M2+ and M2-.
If you are using a five or six wire stepper make sure the central wire(s) are not connected to anything. You may want to use some electrical tape to cover the end of the wire(s) to ensure they do not accidentally contact something.
