Raspberry PI 3 A+ anyone?
Forums:
Has anyone tried the MonsterBorg with the new Raspberry PI 3 A+? If I am not mistaken, the A+ is the same as the B+, just no Ethernet port and only 1 USB port. All at about $10USD less.
I checked the data sheet and the mounting holes are are the same location.
I just ordered everything and will give it a go (after Christmas... yes, I ordered it and have to wait to open it).

Been thinking about
Been thinking about "downgrading" my MonsterBorg too, it would be a nicer fit. I'm sure I'll find something to use the 3 B+ for... or I'll just add another node to my cluster :-)
The 3 A+ also only has 512 MB RAM (vs. 1 GB on the 3 B+) but for running as a headless robot that's still more than enough,
Let me know how it goes!

Update time....
Ok. So when using the RasPi 3 A+ there is an interferance issue. The single USB port on the PI lands right where one of the capisitor cans sits...
See the first two images below.
I am going to switch back to a 3 B+ but I do have it assembled and working with the 3 A+ right now.
Basically i used the nuts from the standoffs that hold the sd card holder on top to space the 3 A+ and the motor controller boards apart. I tried to have them touch without to much force and then cranked the others side down to make sure I still made good connection on the communication pins. Took a few tries to get everything just right to prevent a power failure each time I moved.

Damn :(
Damn :(
Sure it’ll be fixed in the next revision of thunderborg... but yeah, not worth the investment for us current owners :)
Thanks for sharing! I was planning on getting an A+ with my next Pi order...
