We only recommend using the official Sony PS3 and PS4 controllers, generally other brands do not work very well.
From experience other controllers may work, but they are usually more difficult to pair with the Raspberry Pi and may behave strangely (e.g. constant rumbling).
I would avoid any Gasia or Shanwan clones, they seem to be the most problematic and may not work at all. Also beware of cheap "official" controllers, they often look convincing but are actually clones.
