Newbie and did search but wondering if with all the other stuff a Pi3 might be doing does it need all the guts running, or can some be removed to make it EVEN faster? TIA!
Typically with Linux most things use little or no CPU power just by being installed, they only tend to take up time when they are in use.
If you want a stripped down version and do not need the graphical display then you can use Raspbian Lite, this is much faster to boot up as it loads much less when starting, but the actual running speed after that is basically the same.
As a beginner it is probably best to leave the default selection of programs installed unless you need the storage space on the SD card. If you do start removing things you may find that you have to install them again later on.
