piwars diddyborg kickball controller

Forums:

We are very excited to be entering a diddyborg into the upcoming piwars competition. I was wondering if you might be able to offer some advice on the feasibility of attaching a 'kickball controller' to the diddyborg - (see https://tris10.com/product/kickball-controller) - we'd like to use this for the skittles challenge

I'm no electronics expert and am rather worried about frying the raspberry pi and other circuitry - can I just attach Vin (15V recommended, so that would come from the battery pack) and Gnd to the battery teminals on the picoborg reverse and charge the capacitors? And then just attach the sig pin to the pi?

Or am I in serious danger of frying everything if I do that? Will I end up with too little current to drive everything when the capacitors are discharged/recharging (is this undervoltage?)

Any advice would be very, very, very gratefully received!

cheers

Hi Richard,

It sounds like what you are intending to do should work fine.

The battery voltage will likely dip a little when the capacitors are charging.
All that should do is make the motors run slightly slower when charging, it should not cause an under-voltage unless the batteries are nearly flat.

Thanks piborg - I'll give it a go and let you know how I get on :)

cheers
Richard
